Today’s treat comes in the form of Basil Soda’s Spring 2015 couture collection. The collection, consisting of 20 gowns and a wedding dress, was launched at the first annual Asian Couture Federation (ACF) Awards Gala in Singapore. The Lebanese couturier holds the distinction of being the first Middle Eastern designer to be invited to the ACF.
For his Spring 2015 collection, it was an image by Japanese photographer and artist Noboyushi Araki that led Basil Soda on a journey of exploration into the art of Japanese rope typing or shibari. The duality of strength and fragility of the art form were interpreted into his designs through the play of fabrics and colors:
“The silhouettes varied in shapes but all embodied a certain structured delicateness. Pieces rendered in soft textiles and rich embroideries give a more ethereal look to the strong outer shell. The color palette combined delicate pastels with pops of vibrant colors to contrast the mood and give lightness from red, yellow to white, soft salmon and pure aqua blue.”
